the cleansing

2015. Wow.

I can't believe it's already here.
I've decided that the theme of this year's goal will be "The Cleansing."
I had some amazing things happen last year, and it was by far the best year of my life yet. But it was also hard. Bitterness is something I have battled my whole life. Despite my efforts, I always fall back into the ugly, negative trap. I know part of it is myself and part of it is that I continue to expose myself to the things that feed it, never allowing the wounds to heal.
My ultimate goal this year is to re-evaluate myself. Determine what is hurting, holding me back, and then fix it. Here are some of my goals to achieve this "attitude adjustment."

Get right(er) mentally & spiritually// Focusing on the positive is sometimes easier said than done in a tough situation, but it is by far the most helpful step for me. Reading devotions are also great for getting things into perspective. In fact, my favorite verse is one that I meditate on often when negativity sets in:

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.   -Phillipians 4:8-9

Change of scenery// This is something that has terrified me up until now. Geoffrey is applying for grad schools, and when he expressed his interest in applying for a school out west, I was initially nervous, but now almost anything but. The thought that we may be in Arizona or California this time next year is still a little unnerving, but I feel like a fresh start could be great for us and my business.

Lift the limits set on myself// Although I've grown a lot this year, I've still dealt with more ruts than I'd like to admit, and I feel a lot of that is due to the limits I set and allowed others to set for me. I hope to redefine what creating means to me and to go into this year with a fresh vision. Also, personal work!

BE SOCIAL// This may be the hardest one for me. I tend to spend my free time on personal projects or with my husband. Because of that, I haven't made any new friends since moving. My goal is to put myself out there more and form friendships of substance.

Hustle// This year is already looking better than last for my business, but it's still uncertain with the impending move, and the fact that I don't know where we will end up for sure. It could definitely make or break my career, and I'm hoping for the earlier.

Clean up my space// This will be vital for moving, but it will also help me determine what is important and what is unnecessary. I also need to clean up my social networks. So much of my negativity stems from social networks. A change of scenery all around will do the soul good, I believe.

Here's to a new year full of new adventures, wish me luck. I hope yours is wonderful.

  1. I really appreciate how open you are in this post, being able to reflect on yourself in a healthy way is such an important trait. I hope you make some awesome new friends, maybe you could join a group that reads books or knits (I know I'm like 80 haha) or something more hip, so you get a new skill and new friendships :)

I don't really understand the whole grad school thing but I gather it's like when you finish your Bachelor in Australia and then you do like Masters or something for post-grad. I hope that Geoffrey has a smooth transition if that's the case! And that if you have to move, it brings you new inspiration and happiness :)
I think everything will happen how it should! You gotta do these things when the opportunities arise, it's actually pretty exciting! Even if it's also terrifying :P

Lots of love and best wishes for the year ahead! x

    1. Thank you so much, sweet girl. That is a wonderful way to look at it. I hope you have a great year as well, yours has a lot of potential! <3
