makeup essentials| best of the best

If you caught my last post in this series, you know that I'm gathering pieces for my makeup collection. For this post I decided to share my must-haves so far. There isn't one in each category because I haven't found a favorite for everything yet, but these are my best of the best so far.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter. This may seem weird, because I was kind of a primer skeptic, but I use it on it's own and can't get over how great it makes my skin look. It's moisturizing and gives my skin a pretty glow, and since I'm not putting foundation on top of it, I don't mind the cost.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. I love these powders. I haven't tried many powders, but still had problems with my makeup looking cake-y due to them. Then I heard of these finishing powders, that were more for skin perfecting and good for light makeup, so I decided to try them. This is a high dollar brand, and since they're not in stores anywhere around me, I decided to get a set to test instead of their singles. I was going to just get the Ambient Lighting Edit 3, but after going back and forth because of price and the false hype and backordering, I decided to try something with less variety but more product. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have "Diffused Light" in the set, because it's supposed to be great for the under-eye area. Anyways, for the cost, you want to try them out and find the shade you for sure love.
I mainly use "Dim Light" all over, but the others can be used to enhance highlight and bronzer. The texture is really fine and smooth, so it goes on seamlessly and doesn't look heavy. As a little disclaimer, and with many products, they take practice and getting comfortable with. I only say this because with higher costs come higher expectations (As you should!) but it's easy to be critical if the first time isn't great. (In my case it was reading the shade order wrong and bronzing my entire face...)

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer. Ahh, bronzer, my nemesis. I'm still not great at it, but this one makes up for my lack of talent. It's part of the Ambient Lighting collection, so you can pair it with the corresponding powder if you wish. This bronzer is gorgeous and it goes on so naturally that I don't have to worry about it looking muddy or orange or creating lines, unless I really overdo it.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. This is a beautiful highlight. I love that it has some versatility. I prefer a more natural highlight, but it's fun to build up for days that I want to try a bolder look. This is a product that may change in the future, because I'm interested in trying out a new liquid or cream highlighter, but for now this one stays at the top.

Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara. I cannot do false lashes. I want a mascara that bulks up my natural lashes, and preferably doesn't end up all over my face. (I have extremely hooded eyes when I smile, they shut completely, so eye makeup can be a mess.) I got this as a sample and it immediately became a favorite. It's so good and makes my lashes look so good.
Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencils. I recently purchased these, but they're already my favorite lip product. You can read more about how I feel here.

That's it for the best of the best as of now. I will probably update in the future when I find more favorites and finish up my collection. I was going to include brows, (I use everything Anastasia Beverly Hills) but I'm actually looking for a new, more natural option, so we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading!
